the story is intentionally vague and obtuse and spread all over hallownest in very confusing ways. definitely coming here and reading other people's theories on what actually happened has helped me shaped my own theories. i think it's very normal to be confused about the story until you read someone else's interpretation of it, i do think a LOT of it was left out so that we could interpret it however we wanted. sometimes, there is obvious symbolism that some of us won't get (like i didn't understand that at the end of PoP it's basically showing you the moment that HK became "corrupt" and not pure anymore until after i'd lurked on this sub for a while lol)
