She didn't mind getting her nipple tasered

No I read it, your implication is that there's a double standard on how people who do bad or garbage things are considered based on their gender.

Your contention that a man acting like an idiot will be celebrated or forgiven, while a woman acting like an idiot will be shunned and looked down upon.

While yes, I agree there is a double standard in many areas (most notably the general double standard of "guy bangs many chicks he's a player, whereas a woman who sleeps with a bunch of guys is a slut".

Ultimately in this case I feel your hypothetical example of this gendered double-standard is a bit of a stretch. This is because:

  • Ryan Dunn was a relatively popular celebrity who yeah became famous by acting like a jackass. To truly make a comparison, we'd have to consider a woman of similar celebrity and how she would be considered. I'd contend that if she were a celebrity, at the very least her fans would call her a hero who died too soon.
  • Ryan Dunn WAS criticized by a number of people, like I said most notably Roger Ebert. His gender did not shield him from that criticism. Again, any lionizing of him I'd contend had more to do with his celebrity than his gender.

I just feel you've made a leap a bit too far in your quest to demonstrate the double standard.

If you could provide me with an example of a woman, of similar fame, dying in a drunk driving accident she was responsible for like Ryan Dunn and not having any support, I'd concede the point.
