[Discussion] Slurs

I personally don't care one way or the other about first person language. Call me schizoaffective or say I have a schizoaffective diagnosis/disorder - to me they mean and sound the same.

I really dislike schizo, psycho, and psychotic being used to refer to people such as murderers and abusers. They seem to be used as catch-all words for anyone someone else dislikes and it's ridiculous. I also dislike phrases like "psycho/psychotic smile" and when someone uses psychotic and psychopath interchangeably. It's uncomfortable to see thrown around.

"Crazy" I can often brush off but when it's used specifically to demean, I really dislike it.

I have no issue with the word trigger because it comes from a real medical phenomenon (which has no inherent association with weapons and I'd be shocked if anyone really associates it with weapons), but it does suck how people have twisted it over time.

Unfortunately, it's a bit hard for us alone to just outreach to the community at large, and next to impossible to go beyond outside of it. It feels like the only time people are willing to take schizophrenia half seriously is when they're presented with artwork by someone with schizophrenia.

There are some pejorative type words I like to use myself about myself, ie reclaimed words, as some would say. Cuckoo and psycho, mainly. I'll do it when writing in my journal or talking to my girlfriend.
