Does anyone else feel like they're living in some funky dream?

I didn't even have to finish reading the original post to know exactly what you mean. It isn't necessarily the Earth itself that is fake, it's the lives we as humans in society have set up for ourselves. We've disconnected ourselves fairly well from our most basic needs. We used to have to literally fight for our survival, to go out and hunt our food down, or protect ourselves from being food. That is our most utter, basic purpose as living beings: self preservation.

Where things start to get profound, is the idea of community and cooperation, even animals will often help each other survive. Why that is, well if you can answer that, you'll be able to answer one if life's greatest mysteries.

People often treat the fact that people and animals mate for survival as just commonplace, one of those 'they just do' kind of explanations often follow. But if you REALLY ponder it, mating appears to stand independent of the concept of survival. Breeding won't help YOU survive, and thus, seems to go against our very purpose as living beings. We as humans seem to have the unique ability to recognize ourselves for what we are. We, unlike other species, it seems, have the ability to ask Why? Why do we mate? Why do we exist? Why do we struggle to do so? Can we understand the world around us and maybe do something to maybe make that existence seem...easier? Or more tolerable, at least?

This is where you get into your 'funky dream', we have set ourselves up artificial constructs that usually oppose, rather than embrace, the elements around us in an attempt to disconnect ourselves from the nature that we struggled against for eons, the nature that actually gave us our purpose. We've created a new purpose for ourselves, rather than struggling for survival, we now struggle to maintain the artificial constructs that keep us comfortable.

If I'm being honest, I think I prefer the artificial construct over constant hunger, boredom, bugs, deadly plants and animals, exposure, and horrifying diseases
