Doing my part against SB 918

Thank you for expressing your concerns in regards to Senate Bill 918 by Senator Portantino. It is a great privilege to know that my constituents take interest in what is happening in the Legislature and Federal Government. I appreciate every comment and concern, and take those into consideration when I am determining my vote. Thousands of pieces of legislation come before me, and your input is important in determining my positions. I am familiar with the bill you listed and understand your reasoning for opposing it. As you alluded to, this bill has a myriad of flaws that will make it more complicated and costly to obtain a Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW). Opponents of the bill argue that the expansion from "may" issue to "shall" issue and the removal of the good cause requirements for CCWs is not worth the price. Further, as you mentioned, it is inconsistent with the Supreme Court's decision, imposes costly mandates, and unreasonably raises fees, among other things. Supporters of the bill argue that the bill corrects a drafting error and responds to the Supreme Court's invalidation of New York's "may issue" CW law. I can assure you that I share your valid critiques of the bill. I promise to make your voice heard in the legislature and stand up for the rights of my constituents when the bill comes before me for a vote. It is a great honor to represent the 5" Assembly District and your views are a welcomed, appreciated, and an important part of what allows me to represent you to the best of my ability. Thank you again for taking the time to relay your concerns and opinions with me on this important issue. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact my Capitol office at (916) 319-2005. Sincerely, Hank heal die California's 5° District
