I drew this picture during the peak of a mescaline trip. I don't consider myself an artist, but I want to share it. Thought you guys might enjoy.

Diethyl ether is actually pretty easy to obtain, if you have some distillation glassware (50 bucks on ebay). You can get it the easy way by fractionally distilling it out of starter fluid (which is composed of diethyl ether, mixed heptane isomers, and co2 propellant), or the hard but cheap way by carefully distilling a mixture of ethanol and sulfuric acid.

I know, I mean it's harder for most people to get pure. Also starter fluid contains a lot more than just that...

Ether is fairly safe (you can't overdose: you will pass out before you can administer an LD50 to yourself) and not particularly toxic (I don't think any studies have reported any chronic effects whasoever, unlike the other solvent drugs chloroform and toluene), but etheromania is a very real thing. Be careful!

Are you still replying to me, I've done it and thoroughly researched it?

I do think you forgot one major safety concern with ether. Like most ether solvents, upon long term exposure to air it forms explosive peroxides. These are usually benign if in solvent, but they have a nasty habit to form and crystallize on the sides of the container and the threads of the cap. There have been tragic lab accidents (with loss of life) where someone opened a bottle of old diethyl ether and the peroxides formed in the cap detonated, setting the whole bottle ablaze. There are ways to stabilize it (storing it over sodium hydroxide works well), but regardless storing ether for extended periods of time (with air exposure) is a very bad idea.

Yep, I didn't think somebody would buy it and use it based on a single reddit comment...
