Elementary School Hosts End-Of-Year Carnival, Excludes All The Poor Kids

1.) The teachers thing- it makes absolutely no difference if those kids had stayed home or if they had to be watched by teachers while they watched movies. Teachers are paid on salary, not hourly. They would be paid regardless. After school events that teachers attend are unpaid/part of the contract. Whether it was held during school hours or after school hours makes absolutely no difference in pay.

2.) This is a FUNDRAISER, not a mandatory school event. Its purpose was to raise funds for the school; it was not a curriculum-based field trip. If it was a curriculum-based field trip, this likely would not have been an issue because the school would cover that. We have budgets for that, and from personal experience, if there wasn't money in the budget, teachers would put money in.

3.) Your suggestion is no more or less correct than the school's actions to "teach unfairness" ((which was not the point of this carnival at all). In real life, which I am willing to bet these kids are already fully aware of, if you don't have money, you don't have as many opportunities as your wealthier counterparts. Is it shitty? Yes. Is it fair? No. Is it reality? Absolutely.

Suggesting that tax payers or private interests should have to pay for students to attend this event they couldn't afford is reflective of why we've become such a whiny, entitled society. If you don't want to see kids go without, get involved in your community and help the underprivileged and/or impoverished with their education and connections with society. Simply volunteering some time to tutor and/or just spending time encouraging kids to do well is much more beneficial to their overall well being and future. Bitching on the internet about the unfairness of life does absolutely nothing.
