ELI5: the controversy of Jordan B Peterson

He started gaining attention for his stances against far left ideology specifically when it came to gender politics, which are seemingly divisive by nature. Since then his following has grown as more people stumble upon videos, podcasts, discussions and, as you said, his lectures as well all detailing his position on a wider range of topics. If you want to learn more about the pushback he recieved for his initial 'controversial' beliefs you could listen to his first appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast (around episode 850's I believe) for detailed background info on himself and his story. If you do decide to do further research I urge you to think critically about his teachings I suppose you could call them, as a percentage of his new following exhibits oddly cultish behaviour.
