Employer non-chalantly telling me hours I agreed to work will not be paid because I have a PTO day this week

Absolutely. I'm 34, grew up in poverty, and have worked my butt off since I was 12 years old. If I could afford to work a proper job on the books and not have to worry about how I'll afford the medication I need to quite literally stay alive, I would absolutely do that. But I can't. If I did, I would need to drop out of school and work 50+ hours per week. So it's a choice between having a future, and "doing the right thing." When the "right thing" makes it impossible for you to get by, it can't be the right thing. I wish so much life weren't this way, but it's all I have right now, so I'm doing what I have to do. And one day, when I'm a nurse, I'm sure I'll take care of numerous patients who would think exactly the same as the people trolling me here. If only they understood what some of us have had to do to get to a place where we could take care of them. Absolute dystopia. You could not be more right.
