Facing Shortage in Charter Flights, FBS Reconsiders the Bus

I'd be happy to pay more to have a more comfortable flight experience. (And I have, on occasion, when it's been offered.)

But for most of the flights I've been on, the options are basically get crammed into coach, or pay more than double to get first class.

I don't care about all the frills and amenities in first class. I'd literally be happy just to have a seat where I can sit normally with my knees forward instead of having to angle my legs to wedge my knees between the seats in front of me. But it seems pretty rare for that to be an option, and it seems more and more to be going away.

I was already happy to pay more for Delta or United or American than the absolute bargain-basement airlines for the small bit of extra comfort and space they offered. But then this announcement came out and apparently that option is being taken away on American, and this quote seems to imply that United will likely follow suit.

So, I dunno. Maybe I'm an atypical airline passenger, but my experience has generally been that airlines are not happy to simply give extra room and charge more for it. Seems more like they're happy to give as little room as possible in coach or charge a fortune for first class with very little offerings in the middle. When it comes to flying, it seems more and more like your only options are akin to staying at a Motel 6 or the Ritz-Carlton. Can't we just a Hampton Inn option?
