A family member of a LTC resident in a FOR PROFIT home in Ontario just sent me this. She was not happy when she opened this container to see this. Perhaps not enough staff on hand to properly fill the residents food containers?!

So in no way am I saying this is right or normal but I have a few points

First we have no idea if it was actually like that when the container was opened. Many people stage pictures.

Second, my grandma was in an LTC and when she chose her meals she chose smaller and more often. She would have had this and like another piece of toast and then a bit later a second breakfast.

Also, for profit companies must have a certain percentage of long term care homes in their portfolio to be considered a retirement company. I have worked in the industry and know they make their money off of retirement and not LTC. They receive money from the government per year and must give back what they didn’t spend. This is 100% a true fact.

Lastly, many LTCs are in outbreak because they are old and were not updated construction wise. I forget what government it was, may have been Harris, but they promised to phase out the older homes with more than 2 people in a room and older construction etc. The government that came in after continued that very slowly so a lot of those homes still exist. It’s not cheap to reconstruct and if you are in a room with 3 other people instead of 1 or none you’re likelihood of catching something increases.

But...if this is true this is gross and should be dealt with immediately. Residents deserve the same care whether subsidized or not. I would be pissed if I saw this
