FANTANO Speaking Tour: CANCELLED!

Rather than derail the thread with inflammatory ad hominems pike that, it's important to ask you to follow up and explain your claim.

The claim, as I understand it, is that "people should not make satire if it is possible for someone to misinterpret it as real". Is that an accurate summary of your stance?

If not, please explain what you are claiming. If so, you need to understand the implications of that claim- all sarcasm, impersonations, and other insincere mimicry for the sake of humor would be disallowed. That would include Alec Baldwin playing Donald Trump and saying things that would be offensive if taken seriously and Colbert's absurd religious right monologues from the Report.

Satire is a valuable tool to expose the flaws in a system, belief or individual in a comedic manner. It is not the responsibility of the satirist to ensure that it is not misinterpreted- that is the natural risk of mockery through mimicry. Anthony has always been clear about the character he played in "thatistheplan" and what the character was satire of, he is not culpable for Fader's utter disregard of this fact.

Remember, it is possible for those on the left to create humor, satirize and meme without violating their core beliefs. It is possible to divorce the format of the humor from its origin and enjoy it. This is how you reclaim something. And frankly, i hate this idea that in order to be socially convlcious one must take everything seriously.
