I feel like I don't belong in the tech world

I would probably fall under the category of "nerd", and I like to play video games, and I understand where you are coming from, and experience the same thing.

A lot of people are awkward, and a lot of people think they are special snowflakes because that's what their mom told them all their life. These people come off as socially inept, arrogant, and make people uncomfortable. NO ONE wants to be around them. Not nerds, not people who play video games, not people who like sports, not people who like hiking. The problem is, these individuals usually fall under one or more of these categories, typically the "nerdier" ones (video games), because those hobbies allow them to not have to interact with others, which they are horrible at. So they all get lumped together into one stereotype.

For me, this career attracted me because I have always had an interest in technology (not just video games).

I don't get along with these socially inept individuals, and I don't really have an interest in being friends with them, or people with different hobbies, which includes people that like sports. Why? because I don't RELATE to you. There is NOTHING to talk about. We have nothing in common, why force a relationship with small talk?

I'm going to be honest -

I usually find it funny/weird when people (especially ones that like sports) pursue a career in CS. A lot of these people fit the same stereotype of the same people that told me to "go outside" and "stop sitting behind a computer all day", but are pursuing a career which would make them "sit behind a computer all day". I'm not saying you are one of these douchebags, but it's as much of a stereotype as the nerd who is socially inept.

With that said, I think anyone can pursue a career in CS, regardless of their interests outside a job.
