First day at gym and squat bar is too heavy

I recommend you Check out " goblet squats." It's how people normally do squats with dumbbells or kettlebells, and also makes it pretty easy to do good form and build habits that will be useful if you move on to the barbell. That's how I started, and I think a lot of women start that way with stronglifts. The default beginner weights assume that the beginner is a man, and they don't mention that, which is pretty irritating. You can follow the spirit of the program, though, and pick out a weight that is fairly easy for you to start. Like when you're done with five reps, you feel like you could have done a lot more. You'll be moving up pretty quickly after your first session, so don't worry if you don't feel like you worked your absolute hardest on day one. It'll be worth it to feel confident with the movement.
