At the first EU summit held without us, the UK’s views don’t count – and we’d better get used to it

That goes both ways.

I didn't vote Leave but I've been sat in /r/europe laughing my arse off on a daily basis since the vote. Everytime I get worried things won't go the UK's way, the EU leadership does Divide and Conquer for us.

No informal negotiations (childish). No compromise whatsoever (even though a proper EU-wide debate on freedom of movement seems more likely than ever). The single market is presented as an infallible set of rules written by god. My way or the highway, that's all I ever fucking hear. Remember, ideological, arrogant, authoritarianism is deeply alienating.

Personally I think the value of trade deals are being greatly overestimated. Innovation drives growth, not trade deals. At the end of the day, we have far less to replace than you do, the importance of being unimportant. Plus we tend to buy from the EU at an inflated price.

And of course, this is just anecdotal, but not selling to the EU really isn't the end of the world for my startup (if anything, I've been disappointed by the strength of our currency). As a small fish I saw the retroactive taxes as a signal the EU is going the 'social' route. I find this offputting and I actually like some socialist ideas. Perception shouldn't matter, but it dose.
