Formerly religious people, what was your breaking point?

To everyone saying they don't believe anymore because of hypocritical religious family members or pastors:

Have you ever considered that that's just a problem with people, not a problem with God?

Would you abandon someone you knew just because other people filled your ear with rumors about that person?

God isn't nearly as harsh or malevolent as most people, even believers, make Him look, and I'm sorry you had to deal with people giving God a bad name for so long.

None of us have all the answers. I wish it were otherwise, but we just don't, and in my opinion, the wisest of us can always admit when it is so.

But just look at everything. The complexity of DNA, the exact calculations for Earth to support human life, the beauty of nature. I refuse to believe this all just happened by accident on the whim of a non-sentient void.

Please just consider that like all groups of humans today, at least half are going to be gleefully misinformed or ignorant of the actual truth. Don't let the worst of the believers define all of us.

I sincerely wish you the best. Stay safe out there.
