Found a mk1 rabbit pickup in a barn and it’s been sitting since the 90’s

I had some experience with Volkswagen products; I'm an old guy and worked for a Volkswagen Dealership from 1974-1982, the worst salesman who ever worked there, but the manager liked me so I became the finance guy(long story). This was in the Salt Lake City area.

I was there when the VW Pickup was introduced. As far as I remember, VW didn't call it a Rabbit truck, rather just the generic name of VW Pickup, at least in the US. It was built in their plant in Westmoreland PA . They may have intended to call it a Rabbit truck but don't think that ever happened.

We sold enough of them locally and never seemed to have enough to meet the demand, At one point, we were out of pickups and the manager arranged to buy some from a dealer in Denver, CO , which was about an 8 hour drive. I've forgotten details (of my whole life) but I think management arranged to fly 6 of us from our store to Denver, which is a relatively short flight, but the drive back took about 8 hours. We all wanted to get back but again, details escape me. This was in March 1981 (IIRC) and the pickups that were available were 4 of the VW of the Sportruck model, which came in gray metallic only and two more in red or blue or? (PS. Don't ever get old. Your memory gets bad)
