If you mainly want to sit and talk, the Battery Park Book Exchange & Champagne bar has a number of non-alcoholic options (coffee, Italian style sodas, small munchies and desserts), a nice atmosphere, music some late afternoons and early evenings, and plenty of books to serve as a catalyst for conversation. They've been busier than they used to be lately, but you can reserve a space if you check in ahead of time and promise to order some things. You can then window shop the Arcade which stays open most nights until 8, even though most of the retail shops close earlier, and have dinner at one of many nearby places in or around the building.
