The article also mentions that black inmates were over represented especially in max security. Sure they could all be descendants of that original 34k. Having worked in the Canadian criminal courts, I know they're not. Canada doesn't release any racial crime data, so you can only get peaks in articles like I linked which is hilariously about changing the racial makeup of guards to match the prison populations.

Everyone who works in the criminal justice system in cities in Ontario can see it: In Toronto caribbean/african are way over represented, in ottawa somali and muslims, and many are new arrivals. I don't even really care, I just think it's funny the way liberals claim immigration doesn't raise crime when the obvious truth is that it depends on the immigrant group, some raise crime some lower it.
