These advertising groups control about a third of the advertising revenue of most publications, TV channels etc. Say the wrong things, print the wrong things. You'll lose a third of your revenue.

GroupM is "The worlds largest media group." and they use their power to control content.

Companies like reddit are terrible at generating revenue but they're great at influencing opinion. This is where they derive their value.
