Game is SHUTTING DOWN my PC.

An application cannot perform a kernel shut down. It works be a huge security issue. I would check your windows event logs.

There will be a lot of them so if I were you, I'd clear the logs, reproduce the issue, reboot, sort the event log by time, and then look into all of the logs prior to a log that should say something along the lines of kernel power lost.

If there are no obvious logs, then its not a driver issue and you likely have failing hardware.

I see you commenting that it only happens with gw2 and not other apps. That doesn't matter. Applications stress your hardware in different ways and can stimulate failure. Just because you run prime95, furmark or memtest, doesn't mean it will expose all issues.

I would install hwmonitor and run gw2 in parallel. Now you want to check specs that are out of the ordinary.

  1. CPU/GPU fan pwm vs rpm. If your pwm is something like 45% but your rpm is something stupidly low like less than 1000, it probably means those fans are dead/not free spinning. Take some wd40 and clean out those fans if possible or replace.

  2. Check individual core temps on your i7. Each core should have a separate temp monitor. Check for discrepancies.

Basically, you're looking for things out of the ordinary. If this doesn't yield anything, then I would start looking at your power supply. Maybe it's dieing and its output is not stable. You can test this by underclocking and seeing if the problem goes away.

  • You wrote dieing which should have been dying, dyeing
