Gay bros of faith, how do reconcile faith and sexuality?

  1. here. Grew up in a very conservative, Pentecostal house, in the south. I was taught from day one that gay people were evil, immoral, god-hating, individuals, and they were all going to hell.. How hurtful and depressing it was when i started to discover my attraction to guys.

Now, enough about me. You say "faith" but dont specify a particular religion. Im going to talk about Christianity. Im in the camp that believes the bible is a history book just as much as it is a "spiritual guide". I believe alot of what was written (laws and such) were directed towards a specific group of people. Some can figuratively apply to us today, but almost none can literally. There are tons of laws in th old testament that almost every christian agrees is obsolete, and yet the keep the one that talks about homosexuality. why? your guess is as good as mine.

I also believe that while the bible is inspired by god, it wasnt written by god but by man. Humans are imperfect. Humans have even chosen to omit some books from the bible. In the new testament Paul(who was upfront about his imperfections and sinful nature) writes again about homosexuality (theres plenty of debate as to whether he was talking about monogamous, commited, same-sex relationships or older guys getting their fix of twinks via prostitution or something of the like. its been a while since of read about the subject. But paul also says women shouldnt speak in church, there are tons of christians who would disagree with this.

Todays Christians main concerns are to make themselves look "holy". The only way to do this is to ignore their sins and point out what they feel is wrong in the world and people around them. They cast stones. The very thing that Jesus was against.

Now, when all is said and done. If im wrong about everything, i still believe ill be alright. as long as youre striving to be as "christlike" as possible (loving people unconditionally, not judging, staying humble, not being a dick), Youll be just fine.. when Jesus said that no one goes to the father except through him, i believe he meant it.

Matthew 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'  On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
