General Questions Thread 1/1/17

Does anyone have videos of average Midrange Shadow victories over Storm Haven? Aegis Haven? Other varieties like Seraph and Elana? I know Shadow now has a less than 50% winrate against Haven, but it's still something acceptable like 45%, not some horridly low number like 10%.

Knowing how the deck behaves is one thing, actually reacting to it is quite another.

  • T1: Almost all Haven decks try to play Sacred Plea here, nothing that can be done to stop them. A Pinion Prayer here is an immediate indicator of a Storm Haven.
  • T2: If I played a follower, it often gets Blackened Scripture'ed. Otherwise a Beastcall Aria or 2-drop follower like Reno appears. Playing around the former by not playing anything guarantees that the latter will happen.
  • T3: Pinion Prayer pops + Divine Birdsong play if Storm, Elana's Prayer if... well... Elana, otherwise not 100% sure what happens here.
  • T4: Sacred Plea pops here, giving the Haven player lots of answers to anything. If they started second, "Your evil deeds end now!" + "I see your weakness!" = near boardwipe given that I usually only have at most 3 followers at this point, all of which have less than 3 defence.
  • T5: Aria and Birdsong pop here, producing a rather threatening board. Ancient Lion evo = boardwipe given that almost none of Midrange Shadow's followers have more than 2 defence, and having Catacomb the turn before is not only not guaranteed, but the earlier Cidgel Priest means there is virtually nothing to Catacomb.
  • T6: Dark Jeanne = boardwipe again, and buffs their followers' attack to add insult to injury. Or if not Storm, Themis Decree to remove everything.
  • And from here, the game snowballs in Haven's favor until I get killed outright by Storm damage, or "Haven wins" Aegis drops. And if the Haven is playing a hybrid deck, anything goes (e.g. one moment a Beastcall Aria drops, then the next moment, Elana drops, allowing the Haven player to self-heal to not only negate earlier damage and buff up the healing follower itself, but also whatever came out of the Aria...).

I tried creating a "Ramp Face Hate" Dragon deck to try to beat Haven specifically, but I have no wallet; without things like Sibyl, Forte, Ouroboros, Israfil and Bahamut, my "deck" is just a randomly slapped together set of Storm and direct damage cards, so needless to say, that too loses to Haven.
