German lawmakers want to declare 1930s Ukraine famine a genocide

See, this is a part of the problem with German Holocaust laws.

They have specific laws against minimizing Nazi crimes. So that means you have to be VERY, VERY careful when ascribing blame to the Soviet Union on the Eastern Front.

Tens of thousands of Poles were mass executed in Poland by the Soviets, and many Polish people knew this and had been saying it from the 1940's until the 1990's. But it was illegal in countries like Germany with Holocaust Laws to say that the Soviets did it, because the "mainstream" view was that the Nazis did it.

The only reason today you are allowed to say that the Soviets committed the Katyn Massacre, and not the Nazis is because the Soviets literally admitted to it during Glasnost before the Soviet Union collapsed they admitted the Soviets had committed the genocide, and had blamed it on the Nazis for 40+ years.
