The bedroom as a place of danger Wether it was a passionate night of love or rape will soon be defined by the woman the day after: Before summer break an unneccessary and disastrous strengthening of sexual criminal laws shall be rushed through. On April 20th 2016 the county court of Munich sentenced former president of the local music academy Siegfried Mauster to 15 months of prison for sexual assault. „What happens here is the complete destruction of my existence“ said the accused moments before the verdict. A conviction would be „total anihilation on academic, institutional, scientific and musical level for me“. He got sentenced anyways. Right afterwards the 62 years olf pianist also lost his position as chief of Mozarteum in Salzburg. He is ruined. His conviction was based solely on the testimony of a 57 years olf professor at the music academy. She accused him of sexual assault during a meeting in his office in April 2009. He allegedly pushed her against the doof and shoved his tongue in her mouth as soon as she entered. The meeting took place anyways. In a second attempt he allegedly took her hand and put it on his pants with an erect penis inside and also tried to touch her beneath her skirt. She verbally and physically resisted according to her own testimony, what caused Mauser to get back to his seat. The situation ended when a third person entered the room, who did not notice any subsequent harassment attempts. Without eye-witnesses and the woman neither trying to flee the room, nor calling for help, not even ending the meeting on the spot and the accusation being made after 6 years time, Mauset still got convicted. He is completely ruined – by using laws currently in place. A law that protects women, one could get the impression. But for many this is not enough. By pressure from women lobby groups, women consultation offices, women emergy callcenters, the league of female lawyers, Terre des Femmes and the german council of women there are simultaniously multiple improvement proposals hastily written by different members of parliament. And yet a commision assigned with the modernization of sexual criminal laws by the german ministry of laws already exists to strengthen laws to the advantage of women. Members of parliament just don't care about the results of the commision. Their personal proposals shall be voted on in parliament on July 7th.
