This girl makes me smile.

The fuck is your problem?

I'm a writer. The idea of post-editing to not offend future generations of special snowflakes offends me.
I am also something very like a parent, the idea of using your children as bullets in your war offends me. Feeding your grandchild a burger to prove their safety is odious. Pretending your child cares about the gender of a character in a book that is 90% description and about 1% character is also repellent. Pretending she cares to make a political point is worse.
Pretending you post-edited the book to protect your child's feelings is just idiotic.
If alice-in-canada-land had written a sequel detailing the adventures of Galadriel's army of women warriors, I would have had absolutely no issue with her, indeed I may have read it with pleasure. She didn't. She lied to make a silly little point.
The whole sad tale was vacuous and ridiculous.
No child thinks like that.
The child may have wanted fewer Elvish songs, fewer descriptions of how deep the mud was, more of the eagles and far more blood and guts, but no child ever complains about the gender of the characters. Children have not been taught to care about such trivial details.
Which is yet another reason for deriding alice-in-canada-land's untruthful tale. If it were true she would be politicising, polarising, segregating her child and teaching her hate for no reason. It is an evil lesson. It is the wrong lesson.
The correct lesson is that the books were a fantasy and it does not matter what gender the characters are.
It does matter greatly what race (or species) they are but that is a totally different issue. Alice-in-canada-land, had she done what she said, would have been an idiot.
