Grammy Mega Thread

So, I'm surprised but very happy for Beck. Thought it was going to go to Sam smith.

Since the Grammy hate is still going on, I will just say this -- the Grammy voters are old and out of touch. They seem to make up for it in later years. Musical favorites are decided by fans and the songs the artists put out. That's it. To me, the Grammy's is fun. I'm kinda biased by my day job. They really only get it right when they can hear raw talent (because the voters really only wish they were A&R) and when they realize an artist/group has never gotten their just due. Tonight, for instance, Beck finally got his just due. Herbie Hancock got it with a weird standards album. Joni Mitchell, too. Both of them, and Beck too, had better albums but they all had better albums before the Grammy voters even recognized it. Whatevs.

Honestly, despite what we hear on the radio dial, we are ultimately the deciders of what good music is. Keep buying your favorite albums. Keep watching their videos. Keep seeing them live. Support them. Buy a t shirt at a show. People are the ones who decide if they are popular and can keep making good music.

To me, the greatest thing the Grammy people do is put money back into music education in schools and keep inspiring and give young talent something to strive for.

Also, I'm just a sucker for awards shows. College football playoffs leads into nfl playoffs then golden globes then super bowl then sag awards then independent spirit awards then oscars then march madness then hockey then basketball then baseball then soccer (and a whole bunch of futbol in between)then baseball then we start all over again with football. It's just fun to see some talent. But, music is always there. We don't need awards shows to tell us what we like. Music is always there and we decide every day. Even when there isn't a game or a movie to watch. Just put on your favorite album and it's there. No competition, just some songs that you unabashedly like.

Lastly, that was pretty funny when Sam smith thanked his ex boyfriend for his Grammys.
