Great to see State Police ticketing drivers using the dedicated Tobin Bus Lane this morning.

I'm not sure that's the move either though, then you'll have Uber drivers constantly breaking the law because of low ticket prices (from low earnings) being less of a motivator than higher earnings from breaking the law. Plus, students and retirees would definitely take advantage of this too.

What really should exist is a scaling cost. Automate bus lane tickets and start off with really cheap violations, say $5 a ticket for the first ticket. Afterwards, have it climb up to $25, $50, $100, $250, resetting every 2 years or something.

That initial $5 ticket would serve as a way to educate members of the public who make mistakes with the bus lane. Most people will just not do it again if they're warned that the amount of tickets they get is being recorded and that the fine will heavily increase.

Uber drivers on the other hand will be heavily impacted by this. This system targets the worst offenders and doesn't financially cripple anyone who isn't a dumbass. But it requires heavy enforcement which can only really be done via cameras.
