GUAFC...

We don't have a plan B

I mentioned yesterday in the match thread that we have become very predictable in the attack, and it's been bugging me for awhile now. Injuries have played a big part in this, but I don't think they are the whole story.

It seems to me that earlier in the season we were seeing more long balls down the flanks - especially from Phillips - mixed into the attack much more.

As time passed, I think we've devolved to ONLY playing the slow buildup out of the back without even thinking of other options until we get to the final third.

It seems to me that we rarely if ever look to "fast break" attack, or even a decent counter-attack. Far less often would we see Saiz making runs from midfield... usually not getting the ball until much higher up the pitch.

Other teams know that every time we get the ball we're going to settle in and try to work it slowly up the pitch, and then we'll be looking for one-twos just outside the box or crosses, almost all from the left.

Our passing patterns in the final third have become too obvious and that's a huge reason we're giving the ball away so much and getting so few chances despite always dominating possession.

Bielsa has said himself that no style is perfect or we'd have solved football by now, so EVERYONE must be willing to make adjustments for style and lots of other contingencies.
