The Handmaid’s Tale [S04E04] - "Milk" - Post Episode Discussion

Janine wouldn't have had anyone to explain her decisions to. Not like June who was in love with both of her children's dads who were both actively trying to rescue her from both sides. Also, Janine was slut shamed from the beginning iirc pretty hard by Aunt Lydia and the girls so I imagine she's still internalized that because it's been such a huge part of her survival thus far (becoming Aunt Lydia's favorite). Janine isn't the matriarch, a strong woman threatened by her family being pulled apart, she's a young fiercely independent single unwed mother. If she decides to suck a dick for bread to survive then there's no man in her life that's going to be deeply offended to complicate or give her second thoughts. And it's hard to judge her when she was actively faint from hunger. The guy is 100% the creepy exploitative POS. The part that is awful is that they should give some food so that they can be of decently sound mind and body (all things considered) to make a choice about whether to have sex and continue with the transactional relationship. As it were, he was taking advantage of a dizzy starving girl which is hardly consensual.
