The thing is it's not even about knowledge. We humans are at the core emotional beings and we think in concepts, and the thing that in the end is important is when you emotionally connect with something.

It doesn't work to go about things in a rational way. As an example and since you said you're a teacher, just by telling a student that 2+2 equals 4 doesn't mean anything to them. You could also rationally and very logically explain a formula to a student and they still don't get it, because they have to emotionally connect to the concept in their brain. It's an emotional thing not a rational one.

Another thought experiment would be to think of a person who has been blind for 20 years since birth. Then suddenly that person is able to see. Now you're at your home, you tell to that person "This is a chair." But since this is the first time the person is seeing anything in their life, just saying the word "Chair" and pointing to it doesn't do anything for them.

Then the person gets close and touches the chair with their hands and feels it (because that's how blind people learn to identify objects) and then the person has this a-haa moment in their brain where they really understand "Oh, it's a chair!" because they connect the concept of a chair on an emotional level.
