I hate that Rachel tries to make Joey give Hugsy to Emma.

Yeah, but she didn’t want that one. Anecdote time, my baby loves playing with the remote for the tv. Lots of kids do. But then he presses the buttons, and ends up turning it on when we’re not watching it, and turning it to Cantonese, or he turns on features I didn’t even know the tv had. I tried to outsmart him by taking the batteries out, and as soon as I do. He’s not interested in it anymore.

I know that’s not exactly the same thing, but you can find several other anecdotes of children having nonsensical but very real preferences over criteria that only makes sense to them.

I hate that Rachel “gives” it to Emma because it’s not Rachel’s. It’s not hers to give. Having said that. If Joey won’t even let Emma play with hugsy, than I think he’s being a bigger baby than Emma. It’s a stuffed animal. And she’s a baby. She can’t ruin it, she’s not a toddler yet. He can share. And honestly, she’ll play with it for a little bit, learn it’s secrets, and move on to the next toy. Babies don’t build lasting connections to toys. That comes later. She doesn’t even know it exists once it leaves her field of vision.
