Why haven't we done this already?! (x-post from /r/sweden)

I am clearly outmatched and so I submit to you, the victor. I see the error of my ways:

  • I'm a hypocrite because I said you were being antagonistic and assuming the worst of me for sarcastically suggesting I think First Nations have no contribution to Canadian history;

  • I am repeatedly making anti-First Nations racist remarks, though mysteriously these remarks cannot be singled out;

  • I play mind games by explaining the First Nations influence—but historical independence from—Canadian history, when really I believe the direct opposite;

  • I am prone to editing the wording of replies I've posted a minute or two prior, and you were crawling reddit enough to notice, read and reply before I was finished. You have exposed the inherent anger and racism which stems from the desire to improve the wording of a sentence.

  • I have said the word "chimp" in reference to myself, which is grounds for dismissing all other content and means I think First Nations people are monkey people.

Now I understand how not only Canada's history, but indeed its very identity as a people, stretches back thousands of years to encompass cultures who were displaced to make room for it. As a Canadian descended from Belgians and Brits, I am proud to say that WE crossed the Bering Straight, WE hunted Bison on the plains, WE lived in the extreme North where no one else dared to go, and yes, WE hunted moose thousands of years ago. I'm so thrilled to realize that as a Canadian I get to claim this as part of my cultural heritage.

We don't even have to stop there! So much of Canada's history is European. When you think about it, WE built castles, WE fought off the Huns... the possibilities are limitless.
