Hell Has Frozen Over - Jezebel on False Rape Accusations : -- "An odd place where men’s rights activists and feminists meet is at the idea that false rape allegations ruin lives. [...]"

The Jezebel article does not address the single most important issue when it comes to wrongful accusations: due process.

I blog about the wrongly accused, and have been doing so for a long time. For a long time, I was viciously attacked by people who identify as feminists, and even today I am sometimes attacked. But now, mostly they won't engage me at all because, I suspect, they actually read what I write and realize it's not their issue.

I respect what you wrote, and it is always a good reminder that sexual assault is a real problem. But that's not the focus of this subreddit. At the top of my blog, I have our mission statement, it starts out with this: "Every civilized society must strive to eradicate heinous criminality by punishing offenders, but it also must insure that the innocent aren't punished with them." The point of my blog is not to trivialize sexual assault but to talk about an entirely separate issue, wrongful accusations. The mere fact that our blog deals with only one side of the sexual assault prism does not mean that we don't care about any other side. We see enormous resources addressing sexual assault victims, essentially none for the issue we write about, so there is a need for outlets like mine. This is how bad it is: I've received notes from young men telling me that our blog was instrumental in their decisions not to take their own lives. That's nice to hear, of course, but it's also chilling that these young men have no other resources aside from some unfunded blog.

I will quote from a post I wrote yesterday:

All of us can be concerned about injustice to both the victims of sexual violence and the victims of wrongful accusations of sexual violence without comprising our fidelity to either group. It's not all-or-nothing, it's not a zero sum game, and it's not always about them--meaning the gender zealots who dominate the public discourse on these issues. Sometimes, its about the innocents who are wrongly accused because, yes, sometimes accusers lie, and sometimes they are mistaken. Due process was invented to protect the innocent not the guilty, and that's why an accusation is never tantamount to a finding of guilt. Allowing due process in rape cases is not "victim blaming" or misogyny because we cannot assume guilt based on what happened in unrelated cases. People of goodwill have grown weary of the sexual grievance lobby's Oppression Olympics and it's blithe dismissal of the wrongly accused. And the extremists' shrill insistence that the interests of one gender trump those of another evinces a childish and unschooled contempt for concepts that are foundational to our jurisprudence.
