Tifu by letting my dog in and locking myself out of the house in a snow storm

I had to help you out, that formatting was horrible. Great story though.

OP's POST

So I was playing fallout, listening to music, and having a pretty good time.

Meanwhile, my dog was outside on a line we have set up for her. My dog is relatively smart and rings the doorbell when she wants in.

Anyway she started to bark cause I was really into the game and was ignoring her (I know makes me sound horrible). Eventually I got annoyed enough to get up and let my dog in. This is where the FU begins. A few things for background: it has been snowing all day and I am wearing shorts an a hoodie. Nothing on my feet.

With that being said it seems the fates had decided to screw with me today. On my door we have the knob lock and the dead bolt. I unlock the dead bolt but not the knob. Mainly because I didn't think it was locked (the knob that is).

For some strange reason the knob on the inside side turns enough for you to open by evidently not on the other side. So I swing open the door step through, take the dog off the line and turn to go back inside.

The only issue is that I couldn't get the door to open. I soon realized my mistake. To top it off there was no one on the side of the house I was on and my hope of banging on the door until someone answered was futile.

So here I am barefoot, in shorts, in below freezing temperatures, with my very confused dog, and a lot of snow. I didn't really want to go out into this winter wonderland with no shoes on to get to the other door of my house but I didn't have much of a choice.

I put my dog back on the line and awkwardly walk through the snow and my feet are numb by the time I get there. My dad opens the door, I explain my situation he laughs, tells my mom and now the both think I'm an idiot.

tl;dr door knobs are weird. tried to let dog inside. Got locked out. Parents now think I'm dumb.
