Hey Reddit, what did that karma Houdini you know get away with?

Here’s mine: when I was in the Army, our entire barracks was called outside one afternoon and smoked (punished through exercise). The Sergeants were looking for the soldier (let’s call him soldier Alpha) who poured a bottle of glue all over the keyboard of another soldier’s (Bravo) laptop, rendering it unusable.

No one came forward to claim responsibility for the deed, so after about an hour of push-ups, flutter kicks, and burpees, we were dismissed with no luck identifying Alpha. After cleaning up I visited my roommate, who was lucky enough to be on Staff Duty during the smoke session, and I relayed to him what the Sergeants were looking for. My roommate incidentally knew who soldier Alpha was, and more importantly, why he ruined the laptop’s keyboard.

Here’s where the story takes a turn: soldier A borrowed soldier Bravo’s laptop to listen to some music or for some other purpose, but what did he find on the laptop? He found child pornography. Worried that soldier Bravo would delete this incriminating evidence before the proper authorities could take action, Alpha poured a bottle of glue on the keyboard. Alpha went to the chain of command (the smoking Sergeants were still in the dark) to bring in the Army CID, but at some point Bravo realized what was happening and disposed of the laptop somewhere it was never found, even after weeks of searching.

In the end, everyone knew the now unprovable allegations against Bravo, but nothing could prove what Alpha had found. When I transferred out a few months later, Bravo was still a free man.

TL;DR: soldier found kiddie porn on another soldier’s computer, computer disappears before the Hammer of Justice could be swung.
