History of Magic Assignment

The Creation of Stonehenge, circa 2500 B.C.

Stonehenge has always been, and remains to this day, to be largely unexplainable by muggles. Sure there are theories, myths, and wild guesses. But only wizards know for sure what happened on that fateful day. As many wizards learn in their History of Magic classes at Hogwarts, a Giant war was happening all across England from 2509-2497 B.C. This was one of the worst Giant wars in history to date, termed The War of Stones.

Originally fighting over territory, two different tribes of Giants (one from England’s southwest and one from the southeast) met in the year 2497 B.C. on the land where Stonehenge now resides. This was the final battle ground of this terrible war. Many other tribes fought over England during this time period but this was the worst battle of all; leading to an extinction of both tribes present. These two tribes met at daybreak on October 22, lined up against one another like a scene from Lord of the Rings. Matched as equally as two tribes can be, they all seemed to take a collective breath more launching themselves at one another. Although other weapons were used, this war has its name for a reason. Boulders and throwing stones were used as the weapon of choice as they could easily knock out or kill another Giant without damaging weapons that needed to be made by hand.

The two tribes picked up large rocks and boulders dotting the landscape and as those began to run out, began removing soil and breaking bedrock. Giant sheets of bedrock, boulders, and weapons alike flew through the air until the leaders of both tribes turned to find that only each other remained. They looked into each other’s eyes while they viewed their slain brethren lying in the dirt. At the same moment they realized that they had nothing more to lose. With roars of anger and pain, the giants lunged at one another and slammed stones into each other’s skulls at the same exact, ending the tribes of Tranea and Brukka for good.

Wizards, having had to take refuge for those twelve years of horror, reemerged after this final battle and decided that they needed to commemorate it. They cleared all of the rubble and weapons while burying the Giant’s bodies in the ground in the nearby countryside. They buried the two leader’s bodies next to each other in the ground. Lastly, they salvaged the largest rocks and boulders from the fight and arranged them in a circle around the leaders so that their leadership, sacrifice, and the true power of war would always be remembered.
