How to deal with homeless people in Downtown areas?

a guy has a shop across the street from me. homeless people sleep between a piece of electrical equipment on the sidewalk and his shop windows all the time. i've seen his strategy to get them to leave. first, he asks them to leave nicely. if that doesn't work, he tells them forcefully to leave. if that doesn't work, he physically picks them up and throws them into the street, along with their belongings. if the "eviction" gets contentious, he gives them a few pops in the face to send them on their way. he doesn't get too many return customers. it's unfortunate, but this is the only long term strategy that will work. word spreads in the homeless community not to sleep in front of his place.
