This is the reason we got a tsunami advisory yesterday. Video from Santa Cruz Harbor. Could have been us, hence the alert.

This was substantially below a trivial use of an emergency system. A trivial use of the emergency broadcast system would've been to tell us that the waves were 8 to 12 feet, which would have been slightly higher than what we regularly experience. Telling us that waves were 1 to 3 feet didn't even reach trivial warning level, it didn't even reach informational level. If they had use the emergency broadcast system to tell everyone that it was Saturday morning, at least the people who had lost track of what day of the week it was would have learned some thing. The alert for 1 to 3 foot waves wasn't even as helpful as an alert that it was Saturday morning would have been. This alert only existed so that it could be officially said the entire West Coast was alerted.
