How do you decide what stock to buy?

"Obviously they're raking it in at the moment, but if I recall correctly 60% of their revenue is from their phones. So if in a few years the iPhone isn't considered cool or if their competitors make better ones, isn't Apple going to suffer badly?"

I've been concerned about Apple's reliance upon the iPhone for a couple of years now and ... I've been wrong. I'm not concerned that the iPhone won't be cool, but really that there's a point of saturation/maturation for the smartphone market. Also, that the desire to have the latest/greatest will slow as people start to feel less strongly about having the latest edition phone that really isn't that much of an evolution over last year's model. As for other players, I think if you walk into most carriers (VZ, T, Tmo, S) what are your options, really; HTC I think is pretty much out of the picture. There's some LG. Some carriers have the Pixel but like the Nexus before it the Pixels remain good phones that aren't reaching a mass audience. Oneplus has managed to get their new phone into Tmobile, but for most carrier stores, they often seem like "Samsung and Apple Stores...and a few other things in the corner."

I still would like for Apple to lay out the path for "life beyond the iPhone" and potential other flagship product lines for the future, but Apple is more than satisfied to let services revenue continue to shine (https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/05/01/apples-services-business-continues-monster-growth-revenues-up-31-percent-in-record-breaking-march-quarter.) "Across all our services, paid subscriptions surpassed 270 million, up over 100 million from a year ago and up 30 million in the last 90 days alone, contributing to the overall increase in services revenue," Cook said. I do think Apple Music and an increasing amount of filmed content will add to that service rev.

The watch is also doing surprisingly decent. https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/09/04/apple-watch-surges-to-top-of-global-wearables-market-with-market-beating-growth
