How highly rated were United youngsters before breaking in?

I'll only write of my favorite.

*Varela

There was some international youth tournament going on when we bought him which gave fans an opportunity to watch and form opinions on him, and it was clear to me at least that he was pretty good. He's a bit like Rafael but I rate him higher actually. His defending is not spectacular but competent, but where he's very good is going forward. I'd describe him as having a "football brain" or high football IQ, which is my favorite type of player. He actually had a hand in almost all the goals against Arsenal and that Danish team, and he's a right back. Having him and Shaw as our fullbacks will cause nightmares for defenders next season.

*Pereira

Very talented and I'm glad we got him down to a new deal, otherwise his lack of playing time would be seeing him seriously considering leaving. He's more than good enough to start, we just happen to have Mata and Rooney playing in his preferred position and it would be very hard to drop either one of those two for him. He's sort of a dead ball specialist and in fact can score free kicks with both feet, which is amazing when you think about it. He even deliberately scored directly from a corner recently for the u21s. He's amazing at dribbling, has above average pace and his passing range is exceptional. Definitely will make it here.

*Fosu-Mensa

This dude is a beast and only just turned 18. When he played for the u18 he was ridiculously above that level, now he plays for the u21s and still looks a cut above. The one word I'd use to describe him is "boss". He's rock solid, has amazing strength/athleticism/physique, and pace to burn. No one really knows his best position because he's always good regardless of where he's played, although his stature and style favour more defensive positions. Future captain.

There are obviously more but those three are my favourite. Looks like the demise of our academy was greatly exaggerated.
