How Poets make Money

You can easily "break the mold of poetry not making money" using the post-1940 solution to these kind of problems: change the meaning of "poetry".

The problem is that everybody can do "bad poetry", you just put some fancy word one after another. So obviously this tends to alienate the commoner who rightfully says: "well, I could do this as well, what's the point?".

That's the main problem and why the shifting from poetry to shit isn't completely working. Drawing, for example, is technically difficult for most people, they "couldn't do it themselves", so the shift from Michelangelo to mangas or murales has been possible. Because most people can't even draw mangas or murales, so they'll find it "art", which today means "cool stuff I wouldn't be able to do myself".

What's left is the "cool" part. Rappers made "what sounds like poetry" a thing for the bad guys. And it worked. Start a poetry fashion and everybody will throw money at you.
