People always assume higher power means God, and usually assume Christian God.

Higher power can just as easily, and far more logic, be thought of as aspects of yourself.

Even better, doing this introduces all the benefits of a "spiritual" life into an entirely pragmatic non-religious way.

Faith doesn't need to be placed in God...

It can be placed in your own willpower.

Just food for thought. I understand many people don't like any religious connotations or to feel like they're giving responsibility away to some other entity.

I'm one myself.

But there is something that draws people towards this stuff, and even people that don't like it still have to find what it provides the people that do in some form or another... Could be science if you want, but seeking out understanding of our place in the universe and what it even is to be a human is a primal part of being human... This "higher power" is precisely this understanding.
