Hungary's Orban rejects 'Sovietization' by Brussels, defends nation state -- "As heirs to 1956 we cannot allow Europe to cut the roots that made it great and helped us survive the Soviet suppression. There is no free Europe without nation states and thousands of years of wisdom from Christianity."

This is a broad topic. You seem to be genuinely interested in what I'm saying, so please take a few minutes to really understand my point. MY point, not what you are making me say.

As a CITIZEN (not civilian) of a democracy, you have an obligation to stand up for your opinion. If you do not stand up for your opinion, you cannot then be exempt from the consequence of you NOT taking a stand. I am not saying anyone is GUILTY. I am saying RESPONSIBLE. There is a difference. Guilty means breaking the law, responsibility is a moral thing.

Whether we like it or not, our system of governance (democracy) places the responsibility of its decisions on the people. We elect representatives that will act in our stead.

You say that they might not do as we expect them. That's fair. But, when they do not keep their promises, are you standing up to them? If so, you can claim that you are not responsible, you did your part. Otherwise, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE. You are not guilty, but you are responsible. Your inaction enables those representatives to keep doing what they are doing. Your silence is considered approval.

This is democracy. You are free to think it is ridiculous, but democracy only works if the people take responsibility (obligations) along with their rights. Democracy is hard work - it's not just about getting from the government it's also about giving, both in time and in resources.

I hope this is clear.
