why shouldn't they be able to mine it?

I'm not saying they shouldn't be able to. I'm saying that if mining was not supposed to be centralized. There is at least 100 billion invested dollars out there that never asked for any of this.

Since mining is centralized, a miner is now able to destroy the original chain and force all those investors to continue on with no development team, other than Garzik being payed by Wu. Of all the technology we now have, or are planning for the future, Garzik and Wu has no contributions. Everything Garzik has been involved with lately is to build blockchain surveillance tools. Don't tell me the NYA Round Table doesn't know what they are about to do.

They are forking the project, that's the beauty of open source.

Sure, but they are forking the code without forking the blockchain. There is a big difference.

unwanted legacy chain

Unwanted only by the NYA Round Table. Nobody else has asked for any of this, and we really don't need it.

if 2X turns out to be worse, then I will also celebrate the return of resources and capital to the original

That won't happen. Garzik will have to implement all the research that core has been doing. They are destroying the core team whether we like it or not. Wu and ViaBTC has even said it them self.
