If I found $5, I'd pocket it. If I found $5000, I'd report it. I'd guess I'd rather find $5.

Once I was in a nicer part of NJ going to dinner with an ex of mine. We parked in this little lot, and near by was a little strip of pretty restaurants and what not. Collingswood. Anyways, I found this old ladies wallet just lying in the middle of the lot. I opened it to look for her license and there was over 1000 dollars in cash. I have no idea why this old lady had so much cash but it's not my business. I went around the small strip of restaurants searching for her and found her in an upscale Italian place in the middle of eating her food. I walked up to her, and her lady friend, excused myself, and explained I had found her wallet in the lot around the corner just lying there. I was smiling because I had expected her to be gleeful with joy seeing as I had returned her wallet more or less untouched. I guess I wanted a little recognition from her for being a nice guy( not money, just a thanks maybe? ). Instead I didn't even receive a smile, or a thank you. I was flabbergasted as she just looked at me coldly and said nothing at all. I placed her wallet on the table told her to enjoy their dinner and left. I told my ex what happened as I exited the restaurant and she said she probably assumed I had taken a little bit of money out of the wallet. I was pretty upset but, oh well. Anyways I was reminded of that story by this post and just thought I would share. Sometimes I will remember the incident, think about how rude she was to me and think, maybe I should've just taken that shit. But I know that's not me, and I did the right thing. So yeah, please be nice if someone returns your wallet.
