[discussion] ASMR: does your brain tingle?

  1. Do you experience ASMR? Anything particular to how it feels for you?

I do! The feelings I get range from tingles to relaxation, anxiety relief, help falling asleep, and even just a warm, content feeling. Sometimes the tingling can feel arousing as well and that's always a bit confusing when combined with the braingasm aspect.

2.What was your first experience with ASMR like?

I wish I could remember the first experience I had. I found out the term way after I had been experiencing it. I always remember loving the cotton swab in the ear stimulation, getting tingly when I would sit for portraits/being drawn (clothed!). But there were always prevalent whispery voices that soothed me throughout my life.

  1. What sort of stimuli trigger ASMR for you?

I have lots...whispering, barely audible sounds, tapping, crinkling, wood scratching, scissors cutting hair, the close personal attention aspect (sometimes combined with softly spoken words), ear brushing, ear cupping, and just some simple white noise (among others).

  1. Do you have any favorite videos/audios you would like to share?

There are too many videos for me to link, I'm afraid, but the ASMRtists that come to mind are: GentleWhispering (who you mentioned), MassageASMR, MickelousProductions, Tony Bomboni, and Liv Asmr. And /u/alwaysslightlysleepy has some wonderful videos as well. Also, good old-fashioned Bob Ross painting videos seem to work for me too.
