If you’re in the US and were thinking of getting sterilized, might want to get on that if you can.

It’s specifically the copper IUDs that are just as effective, and the window where there is wiggle room is the month after they are inserted while it’s still settling into place. The only danger it presents is getting dislodged, and if you’re doing something to get it dislodged you have more things to worry about because it is very difficult to do that. There has been many accounts of people getting pregnant after sterilization, the only sure method is to completely remove the whole uterus.

Anecdotally, your opinion that because some of your friends have gotten pregnant with a generic iud and that you had to pay $50 for your Paragard makes them all invalid is a dangerous one to spread. That you think your iud is scary and you didn’t really want it so you’re going to influence young women to not get one is absurd and selfish.

Hysterectomies, while being more ideal in my opinion, are much more painful, dangerous, expensive, and more importantly much harder to obtain. The point of my comment was to tell women there is a less expensive (how much do you think your copay on a hysterectomy will be? Do you think it’s going to be covered by insurance?), is the most effective form of bc after a hysterectomy (because it scientifically is, sorry about your anecdotal evidence), and ultimately EASIER TO OBTAIN because the post is discussing access to reproductive autonomy.
