Increasingly Concerned About the Ethics of Accommodations: Good Intentions Run Amok?

I don’t disagree with your point here about some advocacy groups. One of the issues with accommodations is that there isn’t really an understanding of what are the appropriate accommodations for ADHD (I know there were others mentioned, but this is my experience so I won’t veer into other areas). It varies wildly from institution to institution, and most often students are offered extra time on exams or for assignments. Not always helpful for people who struggle with managing time and planning. Maybe if the accommodations were more targeted to the specific challenges people encountered it would feel less like a scattergunned approach.

Despite my disagreement with your post about your niece I can see your perspective about students and accommodations. I think we’re just in an age now where we are more inclusive of people with disabilities than ever before, people are accessing support that levels the playing field with their peers. I personally think that’s a good thing.
