He might have actually. A problem with society today is we are taught to question everything. So we make up reasons for things to be instead of its God showing himself.
I see it all the time in people who ask for miracles and say why doesn't God let miracles happen anymore. Then you show them one or tell them about it and they explain it away.
I personally have seen a miracle and have heard of many others. but people will just explain it away. "O its a fluke of nature."
I think something this tells us is that we must be ready to see him. You can ask him show himself but if the eyes of our heart are still cloudy then we will be blind to him. If our hearts were truly clean and not dirty we could probably see him everywhere and inside of people every day but I know my heart is so dirty since i am a sinner that i cannot see this. But its what i work for to clean up my sin's and so the eyes of my heart may see the miracles of God everywhere.
I do want to say I am not speaking up against what is taught. I think it is good to have this mind set but i think we sometimes bring that to far in religion where we will want certain truth but then use that to ignore the signs out there.

Seen it with my own eyes and took my sister who didn't believe it who was becoming orthodox into someone who believes if you want know more the story is in my history.
2)Had a friend, Who visited Mount Athos(Holy mountain). He had deadly peanut allergy. Forgot to tell monks, he ate some they looked for medicine none to be found. He was in room dieing being given orthodox version of last rites as it ended and he felt like he was dieing all the sudden he felt all right and is still healthy with lots of kid's today.

There are more but that is the big 3. But i still know people who say the icons cannot be real not helped by some people faking them.
so long story short he probably has just the eyes of our heart are so clouded we cannot see it.
